Dr Hasserjian received his MD from Harvard in 1990 and trained in Anatomic Pathology and Hematopathology at Brigham and Women's Hospital. His research interests are in the discovery of pathologic and genetic features associated with the biologic behavior of myeloid and lymphoid neoplasms. Dr Hasserjian is an author of over 100 peer-reviewed publications and numerous review articles and chapters, and he is a Senior Reviewer for the update to the 4th edition of the WHO Classification of Myeloid Neoplasms. He has lectured on the practical diagnosis of lymphomas, reactive lymphoid proliferations, and bone marrow disorders in numerous courses and international pathology meetings across North America, Europe, and Asia.
Dr Laurence de Leval
Professor of Pathology and Head of the Pathology Department, University Hospital of Lausanne
Dr Laurence de Leval is Professor of Pathology and Head of the Pathology Department at the University Hospital of Lausanne, Switzerland. She graduated M.D. at the University of Liège, Belgium, in 1994, where she trained in pathology and obtained a PhD degree in experimental pathology in 1998. She completed a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship in hematopathology at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. From 2000 to 2009 she was staff pathologist at the University Hospital, Liège and senior researcher of the Belgian National Fund for Scientific research. She received the Benjamin Castleman award presented by the USCAP in 2008 for her discovery of the follicular helper T-cell (TFH) derivation of angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, and was awarded the Inbev-Baillet Latour Fund Prize for Clinical Research in 2009. She has authored more than 170 scientific publications and several chapters for reference textbooks in pathology and hematology. She is a member of the executive board and of the pathology group of the LYSA (the Lymphoma Study Association) and was elected member of the International Lymphoma Study Group in 2011. She is a member of the International Thymic Malignancy Group (ITMIG). Her diagnostic activities are mainly in hematopathology and molecular pathology. Her research is currently focused the characterization of the pathological spectrum of lymphomas derived from TFH cells, and deciphering the molecular mechanisms underlying oncogenesis in NK/T-cell malignancies. Other interests include implementing and optimizing tools for the molecular diagnosis of hematological malignancies and other cancers.
